Makuwa uri (melon)

Its origin is former Makuwa Village (covered in today’s Motosu City), and it is named after that village. There is a record indicating that in 1575 Nobunaga Oda (a renowned feudal lord or Daimyo) offered this fruit to the Imperial Court. The fruit's shape is cylindrical, similar to a straw rice bag, and its yellow skin is striped with 10 green lines. It is a type of melon family which falls from its vine on its own when it is ripe. The fruit has a distinctly pleasant flavor.
