Kanroni of natsume (sweet-boiled jujube fruits)

Natsume (jujube) trees were traditionally planted in the yards of many households in Hida region, and people harvested their fruits in autumn and boiled them in sugar and soy sauce to make sweets. Ripe, madder red color fruits are sweet and can be eaten fresh, but for the preparation of sweetened boiled sweets, lightly-colored, hard fruits are selected. It is too difficult to resist taking going back for seconds when offered as sweets with tea or as a snack.
