Doujou hachiya gaki (persimmon)

This astringent persimmon variety originated in the Hachiya area of Minokamo City. A country samurai offered dried persimmons to the Shogun of Kamakura Government, who said afterwards, “It was as sweet as hachi-mitsu (honey),” and gave the name of “Hachiya” to the designations of the persimmons and village. It is also called “doujou” (court noble) hachiya gaki as it was presented to and enjoyed as a delicacy by the rulers and high ranking officials of various governments and shogunates over its long history. In 2017, it was registered under Geographical Indication (GI) Law.

Dried persimmons with the sweetness of honey, grown in the winter sunlight and breeze.
The dried persimmons of this area date back over 1,000 years and once were offered to the Shoguns of Edo Period (1603-1868). They are characterized by their deep, honey-sweetness and strong texture. Available with advance orders accepted starting December 1st. The delivery begins late December in order.
