Sengoku mame (bean)

Its main cultivation area is southern part of Gifu City. The name “sengoku mame” came from its shape similar to sengoku ship (having capacity of sen or 1,000 koku of rice), its resistance to high temperatures and diseases and its fertility of bearing many beans. Young bean pods have a rich flavor. It is popular locally to boil them after removing pod strings and to mix with miso paste.

Tastes of memories and ones hometown.
The beans used to be grown by almost all farmers in the southern part of Gifu City. As less producers cultivate them, now they are a rare vegetable variety. Due to its uniquely green flavor and rich and deep taste, they can be widely used for tempura, sesame mix dish, simmered dishes, clear soup, and so on.
