Washimi kabura (turnip)

The turnip is cultivated in the Washimi area of Takasu Town in Gujo City. Unlike Hida beni kabu (red turnip), its color is close to purple which becomes lighter towards the bottom, while the lower two-thirds are white. The texture is soft and suitable for being pickled. Pickles are made for various consumption seasons such as the new year holiday, winter, spring and summer by adjusting the amount of salt used.
